To me, i feel that this statement is true to a large extend.

I feel that the local TV stations are producing more and more boring productions and the story lines are becoming even more cliche every time they produce the films. Even comedies copy from the other countries to somehow make their shows to be "original" and entertaining.

However, some shows are still quite good. All-time favourite "PCK" is one of the good shows produced by the local TV stations.

i do not agree that our local TV stations are poor entertainment proiders, You have to remember that we are afterall a small country. I am sure that the local tv stations are tying their best to provide entertainment that fits into their budget and to stick to basic entertainment that would be well... entertaining. The local tv stations do show thought provoking reality shows such as singapore idol and project runway. These shows itself are not featured on other TV channels on cable television. On that note you could say that our local television stations are broadcasting shows that appeal to the masses, which shows that they are concerned about their viewership and would wish to entertain their viewers to their best of their ability. Personally, even some local events broadcasted are morei nteresting then international ones that does not have anything to do with singapore. With the programn to do something wth singapore, it feels more personal as it is closer to home and thus might affect how i may live.

I have to agree that Singapore has a limit to its productivity in this local television scene. We do not have world-class shows that can be broadcasted around the world. On top of that, we still have to broadcast shows from overseas. However, we cannot over shadow the fact that we do have a few good local shows produced here in singapore.

I do not agree with the statement. I feel that singapore has the potential to produce good television programs that will reach international standards. We can see from some of our local shows like PCK, My sassy neighbour etc., that we are slowly and gradually reaching some international standards. I believe soon enough, our local shows will be broadcasted overseas and on international television.

I agree with the saying that our local tv stations are poor entertainment providers. The programs shown are most likely to be boring and does not even capture the attention of the viewer. The programs shown are rather typical in the sense that it sometimes imitates other shows or movies and the actors are not professional enough.

Local TV has not been the best entertainment providers but they are not the worst. It may seem so to many as we do not have a large variety of them but we do have good shows.

Take for example, popoular dramas like 'Holland Village' achieved very good viewership, an evidence of popularity and entertainment for viewers. We also have our own comedies like 'PCK' and 'Under one Roof' which is a must-watch for some and well received by many.

Singapore Idol may be a 'copy' from American Idol, but it is nonetheless very welcomed by many and fans are entertained.

Zenas mentioned that the some shows are cliche in terms of plots and this is indeed the truth. We even need to to borrow ideas from other tv programmes and shows. This has contributed to the lack in suhstance of the shows.

Furthermore, how can viewers receive fresh plots and storylines when there are strict restrictions in Singapore?

I agree that our local tv station provide very poor entertainment because of no famous star that the viewer do not known any of them so it will be very boring and the rating of the Programme will decrease rapidly. And the reason unknown star in reality tv is to make new faces.

I do agree with this statement, i think that our local TV stations are poor entertainment providers because they do have any famous star from other country to really attract the viewer attention. Maybe they want to cut the cost of inviting oversea star budget. Beacuse of that the rating of the programmme are decreasing.

as a singaporean, frankly i think that singapore TV stations are poor entertainment provider. within each year there will be one particular fil that will be broadcast for quite a few times. each year they try to come out with a new tv show but i find it kind of boring for us, teenagers. even there will be a sequel of a reality show such as coffee talk, hawker woks, i find that it is like the same thing over and over again. they sholud like find watt interest the viewers and try to lift up to their expectation.

Local TV is not the beat entertainment provider but they are definitely not poor.

Today, many of us may tend to feel bored at home as there is a lack of good programme shows. The choices of shows are limited and they tend to be 'copies' of foreign ones. Singapore Idol and The Dance Floor are just some examples. Local dramas are stiff in plots and storylines and we often predict the outcome even before they are broadcasted. Some dramas may even lack the substance and quality. Other than that, our local artistes are not as professional as foreign ones and we even need to invite them over to Singapore to help us in certain programmes. There is even a need to do sequels of shows like Project Superstar so capture more viewerships.

The lack of choices on TV is also another reason why we feel they are not the best entertainment providers. We are so limited in choices that we have to import foreign shows and even make 'copies' of show. We even have to pay for channels on Cable TV to enjoy really good productions

But nonetheless, we still have some good progammes. PCK and the recent Maggie and Me are popular comedies. Chinese dramas like Holland Village are popular in the whole family. Variety shows like 'Gao Xiao Xing Dong' and 'Bai Jia Le' are more orignal in concepts and more entertaining for viewers.
Shows in the past are also better in terms of quality and plots and they are definitely more entertaining than most shows now.

Therefore, local TV is not that poor as entertainment providers, but there is room for improvements and also credits to them for the good shows that are still broadcasting. However, if there is more competition in the industry, there may be more chance on improving the standard of entertainment.

i agree to a large extent that local tv stations are poor entertainment providers. some of their shows hav no originality as they copy the ideas from tv shows overseas. also some of their shows ae too cliche and predictable, not capturing our attention at all. those shows that do make us turn on our television are shows from other countries such like Lost or desperate housewives.
however we do have to give them some credit as singapore is a small country and we hav limited resources of talent etc. there are some shows however that makes it worth watching tv like for example pck etc.
there is still room for improvement tho and we can see singapore trying to be improve and cater to its audiences.

i do agree that our local tv station are poor entertainment. Very seldom we can see they use their orginal idea to make up the show. On top of that, they copy oversea idea and sometime make the show very dull. i think they should put more their own creativity idea to their show to make it more interesting to see.

In the society today, television has become part of our lives. It links us to the outside world, helping us gain information we are ignorant of. i feel that the statement is a rather critical judgement on our local production. Watching the local programmes might be meaningless to some, but i think we ought to be thankful for having Mediacorp. Acccompanied by artistes, entertainers, newsbroadcasters and more, local producers patently display Singapoe to Singaporeans. Displaying the daily scenes and our lifestyles we lead. Thus, we have to think twice, if not thrice before condemning on our own shows. In conclusion, it is up to the individual to discern the useful programmes from the ones he thinks is mindless. The fact is, it might be beneficial but not appealing, so just take it or leave it.

i do not agree. our local tv has improved from the past. i am sure Mediacorp has been trying to provide good entertainment for us. i'd agree with shirley's group that if there were more competition in that industry, the standard of our local tv stations will improve.

I disagree on that statement. In fact, I find that local TV stations provide the sufficient amount of entertainment. It is bascially based on your preference. It is true that Singapore is not really exposed, but there is still a standard to the local entertainment scene and its definitely not poor. The entertainment which is provided may not suit one, however, another may think differently of the entertainment.
