I personally, do not enjoy watching local entertainment TV.
I feel that local TV stations have a lack of creativity. Take a look at the 7pm and 9pm shows on Channel 8. Don’t you get a sense of déjà vu every time you tune in? The plots are stale and are re-used over and over again. Sometimes, they even rip ideas off popular overseas series such as 24 or Alias.
The local variety shows sometimes consists of crude humor and are rip-offs from popular overseas variety shows.
Even if this does not apply to all of our local TV stations, in my opinion, I feel that our local TV stations are poor entertainment providers.

Like Yvonne and Kang Ling, I do not like local entertainment TV.
The content of the shows are repeated and lack of creativity. For the Chinese local programmes, most of the plots of the shows are taken either from Hong Kong or Korean shows.
As for some of the local variety shows, they are also repetitive. To make the viewers feel amused, they would sometimes make fun of people. In addition, some chinese hosts cannot even speak proper mandarin.
Like KangLing, I would also rather watch shows from cable TV.

Greetings.
Well local television for me is sort of like a "last resort" when there's nothing else to watch on television. While I have to admit I used to enjoy Jack Neo's old variety shows and some other local stuff, the standard of today's Singaporean made shows is really not impressive.
Like what Yvonne and Cheryl have stated, quite a number of our local Mandarin programs are clones of Taiwanese/Hong Kong shows. And even if they aren't, the plot is usually very predictable, and leave much to be desired.
I have to highlight though, that local TV stations do broadcast overseas programs. Some of them seem interesting, but I don't usually watch them.
I wouldn't mind tuning in to watch Fiona Xie though... no lah just kidding.

Local TV stations will never be able to hold a candle to overseas TV stations such as American ones.
Simply put, there is so much censorship tape going on, that censored material can sometimes be more than the remaining matieral left.
Local TV stations are simply too constricted by too many laws and rules that they resort to silly potty humour which eventually gets stale.

I agree with what Zi jian had said. Shows broadcasted at taiwan are more atrracting than our locals.
There are constantly changing of actors and actresses. This give the local people different feeling of watching different people acting. In singapore, the actors and actresses are always the same group.
In this way people will not be bored looking at the same people every time.

I agree that our local programs are poor entertainment provider. If I can get to choose a korean show with a local show, I would no doubt choose the korean show.
I suppose many with agree with me too. Let's look at the famous commedy show directed by Jack Neo and compare it to taiwan's variety shows, it's completely uncomparable. I mean if we sit in front of the television and watch the famous variety show, guess guess guess I would laugh out loud however, when i watch the top fun by Jack Neo, at times i get frustrated with them because they simple lack of the creativity to make me laugh.

To a large extent, I agree that our local TV stations are poor entertainment providers. The only shows that have created a big impact on the public would be star-searching shows, as there are many idol-wannabes out there. But to think of it, Singapore Idol do not originate from Singapore.
Furthermore, the variety shows and drama serials in Singapore are just replicas of shows overseas. This shows the lack of creativity in our local TV media industry. The local productions are mostly copied, twist a little here and there to edit some parts and tah-dah! a "brand new" show from our local TV media.

Come on, let's cut our local tv stations some slack. Surely they do deserve more credit than this. I do not agree that our local tv stations are poor entertainment providers. In fact, i think they are doing a good job. There is a much larger variety of shows compared to before and some are greatly watchable. The stations know that Singaporean viewers are discerning and so they have tried hard to capture our attention by churning out new and better shows. Knowing that even that is not enough, they have also brought in numerous overseas shows to satiate our appetite. So who says our local tv stations are poor entertainment providers? Give them some saving grace please.

i personally do not enjoy watching local entertainment TV. i feel that it is repetitive, copied, and lack of creativity. take a look at singapore idol, so u think u can dance, who wants to be a millionaire etc. all these are converted into the spore version. why cant we have something new? although i do agree with wei xuan, that they are not that bad after all. some programmes such as the ultimate comedian and project super idol and superhost. BUt all these relate to reality tv, which is not original! find something new to broadcast.compared to other countries media, we are FAR far behind. think about it. hahas.

Speaking about local talents.
It's rather sad that local 'homegrown' talents have to go and make it overseas before becoming famous in Singapore.
Look at Stephanie Sun for example, she had to go to hong kong and taiwan to sing it big there before becoming recognized in Singapore, rather sad IMO.
This is also partly why our 2 'Singapore Idols' will never be that big, because they cannot be marketted regionally, as compared to the strategies of record companies which make Chinese Singers big in HK and Taiwan before relaunching them back in Singapore.
