Personally, I disagree with this statement. Yes, our local TV might not be as good as the others in overseas. However, I certainly enjoyed myself and I am sure they are all trying to fulfill everyone's needs and wants! One thing we have to bear in mind is different people have different requirements about local TV programmes. Thus, firstly, it's impossible to meet all requirements. Secondly, comments like this,” local TV is not a good entertainment provider" will actually discourage people who are TRYING so hard to meet the target set by the viewers

I agree with PEI yING. Our local TV stations are not poor entertainment providers. We have actually won a few awards regionally As well as internationally. TV programmes such as entertainment in music, comedies, dramas are all provided.Documentaries and news are also provided. I have seen and agree how our local Tv station grow and improve its shows and broadcasts from time to time. All feedbacks given by viewers are also taken into consideration and adjusted to suit our needs and expectations. So how can we say that they are poor entertainment providers?

i personally feel that Singapore has actually been trying very hard to capture audiences' hearts and they had succeeded!I think is audiences keep wanting more, never be able to satisfy their needs.Hence,is because audience wants are hard to satisfy but not because Tv station are not good enough.

I disagree that our local stations are poor entertainment providers. Though we have fewer channels as compared to other countries, but we do have different stations to cater to different people. I am sure one of these channel would provide the type of enteratinment one is lookin for. If local stations are poor entertainment providers, why are there still so many people supporting them?

I agree with cy that Singapore has actually been trying very hard to capture audiences' hearts and i believe they have done it because like what Ain said Singapore have actually won a few awards regionally as well as internationally. Therefore, local TV stations are not poor entertainment providers.

I agree that our local TV station are poor entertainment providers. Although it is good that the local TV station is producing more local dramas, they are actually cliche. For example, Project Superstar, which is actually adapted from American Idol. After its first run, which was well liked and successful, they started to produce other similar competition but of different category like acting or being a comedienne. Personally, I get bored watching the same type of productions.
They have also produced establishe shows like 'PCK' and 'Under One Roof'. These shows are now still engraved in Singaporeans' mind, but the ratings have been reported to be decreasing and will or has ended its run.
I would rather watch foreign shows that is fresher and has more new ideas.

I agree with chiuyee that the local TV stations has tried hard to capture hearts of the audiences. But I feel they can do better if they can try to come up with new ideas instead of copying from those overseas.

I agree with Ain that local TV stations aren't poor entertainment providers. For instance, Mediacorp has won various awards which shows that they do actually have a level of standards in the entertainment industry.

However, over the years of watching TV, I feel that coverage on sports programme has been neglected. For instance, in Singapore there are various soccer competitions like the S.League and Singapore Cup, but there seems to be a lack of coverage on these competitions.

i disagree that local tv are poor entertainment proviedr.

in singapore we provide channels for every race and religion.

i believe that local tv draws singaporeans attention, for example the chinese drama shows at 9o'clock every monday to friday. There are even malays who watch them and find it nice.

therefore i believe that local tv are acctually quite gd entetainment provieders.

    Yes, agreed with qiuli.

We understand that they are trying hard to meet the needs and wants of all the viewers. However, doesn't mean that one programme is doing so well and you chose to modified programmes of the same purposes. E.g. Project Superstar as mentioned. Look at the modified ones, ultimate commedian? Campus superstar, Super Band? i guess there is no such needs for all this modified programmes just because the !st Project Superstar has done so well.

first of all, barney is Trevor Koh. :D and thanks for teaching us, Betty

Ok on to the issue at hand. I agree with the statement, and i am going to comment on one aspect of our local tv station broadcasts ; commercials.

I believe most of the commercials we are made to see on our local TV stations are unappealing and downright bland. After spending some time watching some channels from the US and Thailand off the net, i can say that their advertisments are much more entertaining. This particular advertisment made me laugh out loud as it was hysterical.it is being aired on Thailand tv stations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZQSMzgVxFo
Watch it and compare it with any advertisment airing on channel 5 or channel 8 and u will get my point.

Commercials are generally spoilers as they tend to interrupt programmes abruptly (take singapore idol for instance;how many times have we felt like taking a hammer and physically abuse the tv set when the host leaves the results for "after the break"?),but if they want to interrupt our viewing, at least do it well. :D

I agree to a certain extent. There are a few factor contributing to this problem. First of all, it has a only small scale market, hence it has many restriction and also it is a monopolist, unless one is willing to pay for Cable TV, therefoe i see those as reasons for its poor service. I think they should not be complacent, instead they should work on how to bring better TV to the people.

I feel that our local Tv stations have improved over the years, but it is hard for them to improve further.

Firstly, the whole problem with free to air channels is the advertisment interuption. However, it is impossible to remove this. I totally agree with what trevor has said that advertisments can be improved on further.

However, we must also know that free to air channels also has a larger viewership rate than cable tv channels, thus it is impossible to please all viewers, which would inevitabily affect viewer's ratings.
